Y’all loved it when we took a deep dive once before into Burlesque, so we’re doing it again with another super-queer movie. This time, we’re taking y’all into lesbian outer space as we dive headfirst into Jodie Foster’s sci-fi tour de force Contact. (Yeah, Matthew McConaughey is in it, too, but we know why you’re really here.)
Before Katy Perry and Gayle King made it in to space, Jodie Foster rocketed to the stars as the dreamy but misunderstood astronomer Ellie Arroway, proiving to all of us once and for all that there was intelligent life out there. Everyone keeps telling her that she’s crazy and tries to get in her way. But this determined little queer presses on and eventually finds her vindication out in the vicinity of the star Vega.
This 1997 thriller made us all want to go to space to prove everyone wrong about us and showed us once again why Foster is a master of her craft. I mean she got us to sit through 2 1/2 hours of (surprisingly scientifically sound) space jargon so we could finally see her meet up with those damn aliens! It’s a tale of redemtption, of sticking to one’s guns, and to being true to who you are. And what’s queerer than that?
As always, doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.
Free and open to everyone!
