June: Rivals

Conflict makes for compelling drama. And if we’ve learned anything from teen soap operas on the WB, the best kind of drama comes from equally-matched rivals with compelling backstories and great hair scheming, raging, and backstabbing. The same goes for Hollywood divas, reality TV housewives, and politicians!

Great rivalries have long been a cornerstone of queer cinema, and we at QFT love them. Maybe because it’s glorified diva behavior? Maybe it’s because it’s cathartic to see others act as petty as we sometimes want to be? But it’s probably because we’re just messy bitches at heart! Not our best quality, but it’s definitely relatable. There’s a reason why Ryan Murphy was able to make a whole television genre on FX to focus on this concept, and people love it.

So for this month at Queer Film Theory, we’re celebrating memorable rivalries from cinema that our professors recall shaping their understanding of being queer. It’s going to be over-the-top, hysterical, maybe a little bit petty, but definitely a lot of fun.

So bring your best frenemy, and join us for another great night of community, movies, and laughter!

Doors open at 7pm; Show starts at 730pm.

Always free and everyone is welcome!
