Ahhhhh, pop stars and Hollywood: a match made in heaven... Because everyone knows that if you can sing, you can obviously do the same thing Dame Maggie Smith does, RIGHT??

Thankfully for us — the queers who love them — our favorite pop stars have been bungling movie roles since before we were born, giving rise to some of the most notorious examples of queer-coded camp schlock ever captured on film! But sometimes, every once in a while, there are those chosen pop stars who turn out to be incredible in the acting roles they're given, and there's an extra layer of magic to their performance and a new accolade they get to add to their fame. And the delicious pop music to blockbuster film funnel is sustained!

For this edition of Queer Film Theory, we will celebrate both the best AND the absolute worst of these pop start performances and break down how and why they were significant to our professors' appreciation of queer identity in Hollywood. It just might surprise you which stars are the ones who are great actors!
